Car Building Guide - Custom Vehicles

Everything about building and customizing cars in Apocalypter: the any-part-any-car system, engine choices, storage setups, and turning your vehicle into a moving base.

Quick Answer: How Car Building Works in Apocalypter

Any kind of car part can be installed to any car — no limitations. You find cars in the world, strip parts from wrecks, and build the vehicle you want: functional parts (suspension, engine, radiator), cosmetic parts (steering wheel, gear lever, seats), and storage (roof rack, crates, boxes). The part adjuster tool lets you move and rotate parts freely under the hood.

The Part Categories

  • Functional: engines, radiators, suspension — performance and reliability
  • Cosmetic: steering wheels, gear levers, seats — your cockpit, your way
  • Storage: roof racks, crates and boxes — how much wasteland fits in your car
  • Utility: portable maggot farms, dew collectors, plants — the moving-base kit

Engines: What the Community Has Measured

Engines come in gas and diesel variants with real trade-offs. Community findings from launch week: the inline-4 gas engine dies quickly even when maintained, while diesel options — including an inline-3 and a 3.0L inline-5 with 172 Nm of torque and 87 hp — run far longer. Whatever you bolt in, keep a spare engine in storage and watch the temperature: the engine and radiator take damage when they overheat.

Oil topped and water in the radiator is the cheapest maintenance in the game — neglect shows up as permanent part damage.

Storage Is King

Roof racks, crates and boxes decide how far a loot run goes. Community note: cardboard boxes are twice the size of plastic crates — grab every one you see. Stack storage and the same trip funds a whole car rebuild; skip it and you are commuting to poverty.

Enemies drop heavy things — weapons, ammo, healing. Storage converts fights from expenses into income.

The Moving Base Build

The official vision is the car as a moving base: portable maggot farms for food, dew collectors for water, and even weed and tobacco plants growing on the vehicle. A car that feeds you removes the survival clock from your expeditions — you stop driving home and start driving forward.

Warlord Trophies and the Endgame Car

The long-term goal is eliminating all the warlords and attaching their trophies to your car. Every trophy mounted is permanent progress on display. Build toward that endgame car: reliable diesel power, deep storage, armor and a mounted arsenal — the warlord hunts are the final exam your build studies for.
